Whidbey Backyard Wildlife Project
Whidbey Watershed Stewards and Whidbey Audubon completed a project to have Whidbey Island certified as a Community Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation (NWF). Along with other partners, we held the Backyard Wildlife fair in Freeland in 2012 to celebrate our success. Many landowners, schools and businesses contributed to our special island habitats.
Although we have our certification, habitat loss is still the biggest problem facing wildlife today. By maintaining, or transforming, parts or all of our yards into natural wildlife habitat, we can create havens for both wildlife and human visitors.
