Summer Day Camp Director: Open January 2025 Until Filled
Whidbey Watershed Stewards provides weeklong summer day camp experiences in collaboration with South Whidbey Parks & Recreation at the Maxwelton Outdoor Education Center on Maxwelton Rd. in Langley, Washington and at the South Whidbey Community Center in Langley, Washington.
We are looking for an enthusiastic outdoor person to lead our 2025 camps. Our summer programs range from 2 to 3 weeks with each week having children from either 8-9 or 11-12 years of age. The outdoor program uses a forested facility with an indoor classroom, or the beach and marina with an indoor classroom.
The day camp is typically held in July and/or August of 2025.

Key Responsibilities:
Direct Supervision:
Actively monitor campers throughout the day, ensuring their safety during all activities, including transitions between locations.
Program Development:
Develop engaging activities like arts and crafts, sports, games, nature walks, and themed programs, or choose to use and/or adapt past program activities.
Activity Implementation:
Lead engaging activities like arts and crafts, sports, games, nature walks, and themed programs.
Group Management:
Foster positive group dynamics, manage camper behavior, and address conflicts constructively.
Communication with Parents:
Regularly update parents on camper progress and address any concerns.
Safety Procedures:
Enforce camp safety rules, administer first aid as needed, and report any incidents promptly.
Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate attendance records, activity logs, and camper information.
Specific Duties May Include:
Leading small and large group activities
Facilitating camper participation and inclusion
Creating and adapting activities to meet diverse camper needs
Providing positive reinforcement and encouragement to campers
Maintaining a clean and organized camp environment
Collaborating with other staff to ensure smooth program delivery
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Strong leadership and communication skills
Ability to work effectively with children of various ages and abilities
Enthusiasm for outdoor activities and creative programming
Basic first aid knowledge and CPR certification (may be required)
Ability to manage challenging situations and maintain composure
Commitment to child safety and welfare
Job Type:
Seasonal- approximately 20 hours a week depending upon the program season. Pay is commensurate with experience.
Environmental Educator: Open January 2025 Until Filled
Description:
The Environmental Education Instructor will focus their effort on several program areas. This individual will teach K-5th grade environmental education at any of our program facilities or local schools. This may include the Maxwelton Outdoor Classroom, the Langley Environmental Learning Center, public school classrooms, and public outreach events. They will also assist the Outdoor Classroom Coordinator with administration of the
Outdoor Classroom and any programs held there including the development of educational programs and coordination with the WWS Education Committee and the WWS Board of Directors.
Qualifications:
BA/BS in natural resources life sciences, environmental fields, education, or related field.
K-5 th grade teaching experience
Enthusiastic about teaching all ages and coordinating/working with volunteers
Experience managing programs and projects.
Self-motivated, organized, and flexible.
Responsibilities:
Assist the Outdoor Classroom Coordinator with teaching K-5th grade students who visit the Maxwelton Outdoor Classroom
Assist the coordinator with pre-lesson visits in the school classrooms if needed
Assist with recruiting, coordinating, and training volunteeers
Attend monthly WWS Youth Education Committee meetings
Assist with duties when school groups are present such as:
Preparing the OC for volunteers arriving – making sure all materials are present and readily available
Helping volunteers set up their station
Assisting with student welcome and teacher/chaperone instructions
Filling in when necessary as lead instructor if the coordinator is not available or co-teach with volunteers
Assisting volunteers in putting away materials and daily OC classroom clean up
Summer Day Camps:
Assist with summer camp program development
Assist in collecting summer camp materials
Assist with leading summer camps during the weeks
Assist in putting away camp materials and clean up
