Thank you for your interest in our 2021 Salmon Enchanted Evening Fundraising event. We are excited to bring you this event virtually so that we can safely provide our donors exciting program updates, captivating presentations and performances, delicious food, and even PIES as you’ve come to expect over the last 27 years! Last year’s virtual event was a success, so we’ve decided to do it again!

How to Participate
Step 1
Use our Online Fundraising Store as a menu to select and pre-order a minimum of one ticket for participation in the event. A base-price meal ticket is good for one catered box meal that will be available for pick-up at The Star Store on July 8 between 5-7pm, as well as an e-mailed link to our program videos. Our Online Fundraising Store will close to web sales on June 24, so please RSVP with your ticket purchase by that date. Dinners will be chilled in oven-safe containers with reheating instructions.
If you wish to donate above and beyond the ticket amount, please select and pre-order your choice of add ons, from home-made pies & baked goods, or any additional donation amounts. All pre-ordered items will be available for safe and easy pick-up with your boxed meals between 5-7pm on July 8.
Step 2
Pick up your pre-ordered meal and all additional items between 5-7pm on July 8 at The Star Store. Dinners will be chilled in oven-safe containers with reheating instructions. WWS Board Members will be in a tent outside where you can pick up any pies or treats, and say hi to us.
Note: WWS will be charged a 5% fee for every transaction through our online store (Squarespace + Paypal fees). Though we have accepted this as a cost of running our fundraiser online, if you’d prefer to bypass our web store, please email us for instructions.
Your ticket purchase and donations will help these important efforts continue
Salmon in the Classroom - Whidbey Watershed Stewards’ Salmon in the Classroom program allows South Whidbey Elementary students to raise juvenile salmon in aquarium tanks at their schools in the winter, and release them each spring into Maxwelton Creek! Throughout the program, we provide important lessons about the salmon life cycle, anatomy, and salmon’s role as an indicator species for the health of our environment. We plan to adapt this program to accommodate a distance-learning model due to COVID-19 school closures.
Maxwelton Outdoor Classroom - While COVID-19 has closed our schools and cancelled all field trips, WWS Staff and volunteers are creating unique self-guided environmental education programming at the Maxwelton Outdoor Classroom for families to enjoy. Take a break from on-screen learning to learn directly from nature! Engage with our educational signage to learn a thing or two while you’re on the trails and visiting the stream, and then come back again & again. We hope to get back to our regular on-site, in-person programming as soon as it is safe to do so!
The Environmental Learning Center and Middle School Marine Science - Beginning in January 2020, our Board and Staff have been working hard to create something brand new for our community, the Environmental Learning Center in Langley. Though COVID-19 restrictions have delayed our plans to open to the public, we hope to open the ELC and provide programming and exhibits to the public as soon as it is safe to do so! When face-to-face programs are allowed, students from South Whidbey’s 6th through 8th grade classes will participate in Whidbey Watershed Stewards’ marine science lessons at the ELC as well as at the Langley Marina. Our program will offer hands-on experiences studying plankton and marine invertebrates, researching with student-built scientific tools and water chemistry equipment, as well as relevant conversations about our local impact on the Salish Sea.
The B-WET Grant - Whidbey Watershed Stewards, in partnership with South Whidbey School District, Washington Sea Grant, and Northwest Association of Networked Ocean Observing Systems (NANOOS) was awarded a federal B-WET Grant for the 2020-2021 school year, and we have applied for re-funding for the 2021-2022 school year. The planned curriculum intends to improve and protect the future of Puget Sound by increasing ocean acidification and ecosystem resiliency literacy through the integration of meaningful watershed educational experiences into the South Whidbey Public School District curriculum. These MWEEs will foster a connection for South Whidbey youth to their local watersheds and a sense of environmental responsibility that we hope will help improve and protect the future of the Puget Sound.
Stewardship & Restoration - Whidbey Watershed Stewards Board members and dedicated volunteers provide regular stewardship and restoration for several ecologically valuable local properties. Freeland Wetlands Preserve, Robinson Beach, and the Maxwelton Outdoor Classroom are three of the sites where you might see us planting native trees and shrubs, eradicating invasive plants, maintaining trails, or otherwise improving the site for environmental and public benefit!
